Close your garage door! Warmer weather means open garage doors ... from several inches to fully open. The Dallas Police Department warns residents over and over close your garage doors even if you are away for a few seconds. What can happen?
  • You have invited thieves to steal your tools or golf clubs.
  • You have just allowed strangers to have access to the back door of your home.
  • You have invited the wrong person into your backyard.
  • You have given a perfect visual to a potential thief.
  • A stranger can slide under a door left open for a pet.
  • You are endangering yourself and loved ones.
When Volunteers in Patrol call you about your open garage door, please don’t ignore the message; they are performing a service for your safety.

LIGHT UP PRESTON HIGHLANDS!
As your Volunteers in Patrol drive our alleys at night, it is apparent Preston Highlands is very dark. The Dallas Police Department says a major deterrent against crime is perimeter lights ... make them motion-activated to startle potential criminals away. Please consider your safety and that of your neighbors and help us LIGHT UP PRESTON HIGHLANDS! And if you already have alley, perimeter and front porch lights, TURN THEM ON at night.

News For You
Don’t Mess With Preston Highlands! Trash and recycling is now being picked up once a week on Thursdays. Please don't put your trash cans out any earlier than Wednesday evening. After the trash has been collected, MOVE your cans back to your house or against garage. Often people leave trash and recycling cans in alleys or on sidewalks. On windy days, trash cans litter the alleys, which is not very nice for neighbors when they have to get out of their cars to move your trash can. In addition, for those who don’t have alleys, if you leave your cans out, you’re setting yourself up for a fine from the city. So please be kind AND smart … move those cans out of the way after they’ve been emptied!

Bulky trash pickup is during the first full week of every month. This summer, items need to be on the curb NO EARLIER than the Thursday prior to Monday, July 7 and Monday, August 8.

VILLAS AT HILLCREST: The Villas at Hillcrest Task Force, comprising representatives from the Dallas Housing Authority, neighboring homeowners associations, met Tuesday, July 8. The Dallas Housing Authority has announced a July 15 dedication for the Villas at Hillcrest. Construction is nearing completion with resident move-in now anticipated at the end of July, according to the DHA. There are 40 units: 20 1-bedrooms, 10 2-bedrooms, 9 3-bedrooms and 1 4-bedroom. Remote-access, motion security cameras will be installed, as well as lights on all four corners of each building. A tot lot will be located in the middle of the complex. All parties are committed to open communication and welcoming our new neighbors to North Dallas.

Have you seen it? Phase II of the hike and bike Preston Ridge Trail is coming along nicely. This is the northern extension of the Trail all the way to the George Bush Turnpike and enhancements along the current 5-mile path.
